Published by admin under Uncategorized

When the pike are as plentiful as ours, its a lot of fun to use a fly-rod to catch them.

Allanwater Fishing Reports July 2008

Published by admin under Fly-in Outposts, Pike Fishing

 Testimonial Dear Johnny,

What a tremendous week we had at Allanwater in June!
The leprechaun (our fearless leader..Dan Day)….didn’t let us down.  I have talked to all of the guys since our return and we all wish we were back.  I’ve never fished at a location where not only are there lots and lots of walleye but trophy potential with every cast.  Five times we had hits on our walleyes as we were reeling them in by humongous trophy pike.  Big game fishing at it’s best!  The best thing about it is that we haven’t even touched all the hot spots in the 6 days we were there, leaving lots of exploring for future trips.  Thanks again, we felt we received a good return on our fishing vacation investment.  Wives permitting, we hope to see you real soon.
Sincerely,
Dan Cnossen July 2008

July 3rd 2008 Frank Springer breaks 30 year Northern Pike record and spends 20 minutes fighting the beast

20 minutes fighting a fishermans dream
                                                                                                  July 3, 2008

Old Time Allan Water Lodge Fisherman Frank Springer got the big one on his annual fishing trip with the boys today. A 50 inch pike was baited with a small “Ho-n-Tot” while fishing near Sunrise Lake.  {About a 6 mile trip from the lodge}. We were all their to witness the show. Frank battled the monster for about a half hour knowing he only was using 10 lb test line. After the fish was boated it measured out at  50 inches and weighed in at a whopping 34 pounds. Lots of quick pictures and Frank released it. It’s alive and well, Frank & his father Frank senior are no new comers to catching big fish. The day before Frank & Frank headed over into McEwen Lake & got a 5 & 8 lb Walleye. Frank has been coming here since He was 14 years old. He knows the territory. Frank says He likes it here because of the amount different lakes He can motor to.

Over all, the rest of us guys did damn well too. I had on a monster pike also that tried to run off with my 16” walleye.  California Tom had the same thing happen to him. Neither of us got the pike. Just the torn up walleye.

This fishery is not just an early season fishery. Frank says it last all summer. Frank knows.

JULY update ————FABULOUS SUMMER FISHING NORTH OF 50!

IT has been  a very busy  month with construction projects  and all resulting from record high water levels here at allanwater….never the less fishing  has been absolutly outstandingwith all groups reporting trophy walleye catch and release action in the 5 -8 lb range.

Don’t beleive  anyone who tells you Canadian fishing is  at it’s best in May- June my friends, ………..it is outstanding  for shear  numbers early,   But  , all things considered,….weather, temperature ,  wind    and the beauty of the north woods in July  and August when full summer feeding pattern is completely established is unbeatable in my book.

I am writing  this  report in early August

Just yesterday fishing with my brother tommy  and his  son Zach along withg my friend Darrel we caught  and releaseed well over 150 Nice walleye in the  16- 20 inch catagorie with no live bait, just split tail plastics  and 3 inch shad bodies.

 Glen Walcott group from Plymouth Wisconsin reported;

August  3-9th   Walleye  8lbs…7 lbs   4 fish   4-6 lbs    northern pike 1 at 24 lbs

1 at  20 lbs  and  just today   august  10  my friend  Darrel  Palecek hit  a 22 lb Pike in  is first hr on  the water dragging  a 6 inch  crank bait!…….Clearly the  second major  big fish  feeding  pattern is  afoot mid summer  at allanwater!
